Camp Clipper provides an affordable sailing alternative to encourage low-income students in the local community to participate in the sport of sailing.
The program was created through the joint efforts of Sailing Education Adventures, America True, Performing Stars of Marin, Fish, a local restaurant, and Clipper Yacht Harbor in Sausalito, CA in 2004 to benefit the San Francisco and Marin County communities, particularly the youth of Marin City.
Camp Clipper is a one-week (5 days) half-day (3 hours) introduction to sailing.
Typically light (but naturally, unpredictable) morning breezes give students the opportunity to start learning about wind and water and to have fun sailing on Richardson Bay, all with safety in mind.

Important Information about Camp Clipper:
-
History: SEA has run youth sailing programs since 1984. Many of our volunteers work hard to improve the camp curriculum, equipment and facilities on a continuing basis. As a non-profit organization we are in turn supported by the America True, Belvedere Cove Foundation, Marin Charitable and other local organizations who are interested in the future of youth sailing. In 2004 & 1998 SEA won the prestigious Nimitz Trophy in recognition of the quality of our youth program.
-
Counselors: SEA is a member of the US Sailing Association (USSA). Our Head Counselor is certified by the USSA in Small Boat instruction. All of our Counselors are certified in Red Cross CPR and First Aid. Our ratio of counselors to campers is approximately 1:4.
-
Contacting Camp: To contact the SEA office at Fort Mason call 415-775-8779. Counselors will be available to meet with parents at the beginning and end of the day.
-
Safety: The 16.5' Capris we use are great beginner boats and are fairly stable. However, there is always the possibility of capsizing, so having a comfort level in the water and good swimming ability is good to have but not required. Everyone will wear a Personal Flotation Device (PFD) while on the docks and on the boats. We also keep on file a completed medical form for each camper so that we will know who to contact in case of an emergency.
-
What to Wear: Dress in layers and bring a towel and extra clothing. It is often cool in the early morning but warms up quickly. Water shoes /sandals,sunscreen, sunglasses and a hat with a brim are recommended. We provide life jackets.
-
More Special Events: This summer we are planning a special outing on the historic scow schooner Alma built in 1891 and measuring 80 ft. in length from the San Francisco Maritime Museum. Reservations must be made through the SEA office Space is limited.
